Losing Track
Sunday, October 05, 2008
When do you stop keeping track of the words your toddler knows? I've always been able to tell people which words Scout knows, but lately, it's been too hard to keep them all straight.
I posted all of the words she knew as of her 17 month birthday, but there have been so many words added to her vocabulary since then.
This might be my last attempt at trying to log all of the words she knows. If she keeps up this pace, she'll be reciting the dictionary cover to cover in like a week and a half.
Adding to her already large vocabulary....
Meow
Nurse ("Nulse")
Bow (as in, her hair clips)
Peanut Butter ("Buggle")
Juice ("Deuce")
Car ("Kerrr" .... like she's a gangsta rapper or something)
Kitty ("Titty" hee hee :)
Bed
Video ("Sisseo")
Shoe ("Seeoooo")
Tiger
Cook
Apple ("App-um")
Phone ("Syone")
Cracker ("Cackle")
Towel
All Done ("Nunn")
Turkey
Teeth
Eyes
Nose
Mouth
Ear
Hair
Hands ("Ents")
Cookie
Lemon ("Memmon")
Pumpkin ("Munnin")
More ("Moe")
Pretty ("Pitty")
Potty (She already knew this one, but now instead of saying "Pah-pah", she actually pronounces it perfectly)
Poopy
Boobie
Hoo-ha (the word we use for vagina LOL)
Boo-boo
Motorcycle (She leaves off the "motor" part, but she says "Cycle" or "Kycle" every time she hears a motorcycle. And then she says "Mmm!Mmm!", like she's revving an engine. DH also taught her to hold our her fists like she's holding onto handlebars while flicking her wrist to start an imaginary motor. It's insanely cute. I'm not sure where this child's obsession with motorcycles came from. DH does own a scooter and an old '80's moped, but they're not exactly hogs! If she still has this odd fixation on big loud choppers when she's a teenager, I'm in big trouble.)
Until very recently, the only animal sounds she would make were "moo" and "hoohoo-haha". But now she snorts like a pig (or like the rhinoceroses in Moo, Baa, La La La), growls like a lion/tiger, baas like a sheep, meows like a cat, barks like a dog, hoots like an owl, and neighs like a horse.
I'm sure I'm forgetting a bunch of words, but it's just too tough to keep track nowadays. And even though she knows how to communicate what she wants very well most of the time, she still manages to find reasons to throw lots and lots of tantrums. Sheesh.

i'm really trying not to be jealous of your daughter's large vocabulary! at tristan's last well baby visit, the dr. asked how many words he knows. i had to answer truthfully that he knows how to say about 10, but he only regularly says around 4 of them. apparently, he's still "normal" but i just can't wait to hear whats going on in the little brain of his!

She is such a talker! Bailey is working hard to expand her vocabulary, too. I love to hear the things they come up with. And Moo Ba La La La? If you ask Bailey what a sheep says, She will say "La la la". I guess that page confused her.
