I mean, seriously.

How on earth do I let things get this bad around here? Trust me - these photos don't even capture a fraction of the disaster that is my house. If I would've taken a picture of the floor, someone would surely turn me over to CPS for letting my poor child crawl and roll around in such filth. My kitchen looks a lot better this morning than it did yesterday when I took these pics, but still. I just hate it when I get so behind on things that it's hard for me to care about the wad of dog hair and cheese cracker remnants over in the corner or about the fact that there's a weird smell coming from my laundry room and I'm pretty sure it's because there have been some wet towels chillin' in the hamper for ages. When things get this bad, it's hard to know where to begin. I know the obvious answer is to get up from this keyboard and start trying to deal with the craziness that is my house right this minute instead of blogging about it, but let's be real.
Scout just went down for her nap and I've been chasing her around all morning. Mommy deserves 20 minutes of down time here and there.

How do you other blogging moms do it? And it's not even like my blog takes up that much time. I have ONE child and an 1800 square foot living space. Should it REALLY be this tough to keep up on regular day to day chores? I'm pretty sure I've posted about this before. Please excuse the redundancy. I'm just still at a loss. Does it get better when they aren't toddlers anymore and they are a little less destructive? I swear, I can be folding laundry while trying to keep Scout entertained and then she makes some enormous mess that takes twice as long to clean up as it did for me to fold the laundry. So I guess I'm just better off if I NEVER do any chores while she's awake because the aftermath is simply not worth it.

My kitchen looks like a tornado hit it. I have no motivation to do anything about it but I know I'll feel better if I just go clean it. I think once you have two kids, it'll get easier. Yeah, more messes, bigger messes, but the children will play together and you won't be the sole source of entertainment. Plus if you ever get to be an early morning person, that is when some stuff can get done as well....or late night person... take your pic.

I can promise you it will get better. My oldest is almost 12 and my babies are 5.5 and it's a breeze because they are old enough to to the bulk of the chores themselves. Plus they can entertain each other while I am trying to get something done.
When Katherine was a toddler/preschooler my house looked like a tornado of filth and toys had hit it. - At Wed Sep 17, 07:11:00 PM CDT, heidi said...

i have the grumpiest mornings when i wake up to a messy kitchen. SO...no matter how much i don't want to clean once tristan is in bed, i at least get the dishes in the dishwasher and the pots and pans cleaned. once its done, i reward myself with ice cream and tv time with dh :)
ALSO, i just thought of this, i've lured dh into helping me by promising a 20 min. foot massage afterwards. trust me, its worth it. - At Wed Sep 17, 10:30:00 PM CDT, Dawn B said...

The only difference I've seen so far with having a 2 1/2 year old is that he's awesome about letting me clean but is he's also awesome about making the biggest messes even compared to Natalie.
I totally feel your pain.
It's so time consuming to clean and keep things in their right places all tidy and everything when kids are that small. Just do what you can. Do the worst of it bit by bit each day.
You would never want to see pics of my bathroom let me tell ya.. lol - At Thu Sep 18, 12:53:00 AM CDT, Unkempt Mommy said...

Thanks for all the good bits of advice, mommas. I should definitely try that whole making sure the sink is empty and the kitchen is somewhat tidy before going to bed thing. And the icecream reward..... Yeah, that's what I'm talkin' 'bout.
