Must. Not. Lose. That. Tune.

Tuesday, August 05, 2008
This is more of a reminder for my own benefit than it is a blog post, but I really REALLY need to find a way to record myself singing. Not because I think I am oh-so great and love to hear my own recorded voice (Is there anyone on earth who doesn't hate the sound of their own voice on tape?) , but because I have been writing songs lately and need a way to keep from forgetting things I write. Melodies and ideas for songs pop into my head at the most inopportune times and if I get busy doing something else, I lose the tune or the timing of the words....which really sucks. Earlier, one of Scout's noisy toys started playing Yankee Doodle while I was humming a bare-bones chorus to a song-in-progress and it nearly made me forget what I was doing. Once I got the guitar out, (which had horrible sounding strings from being neglected in the corner for too long, by the way) figured out what key I was singing in, wrote the lyrics down, and played the song over and over, I was less worried about forgetting it. But still. A way to record things on the fly would be awesome. I used to own a little hand-held recorder in college and I have no clue what happened to it.

Here's one of the only pictures in existence (or maybe THE only one) of me with my guitar. Too bad I look like a goofball.

It may be worth investing in another handheld...or go on freecycle and request one. Someone is bound to have one from college they don't use anymore. :o)

Keep up the musical talents mama! Seriously, you know how hard it is having HOBBIES. LOL It's awesome for you to share your interest of playing guitar. One of these days me and the hubby will have time to sit down and have me learn how to play. He's been playing since he was young and I hope the kids get into it. They already seem to be.
