No More Outfits

Who are these clowns that design baby clothes, anyway? Do they even have any children?

Scout has lots of cute outfits that friends and family have generously bought for her. Even with all the adorable overalls, jean skirts, dresses w/ bloomers, and frilly button-down shirts, I always find myself reaching for a comfy cotton onesie, a sleeper, or a one-piece shorts jumper when I get her dressed.

Whenever I put her in an actual "outfit" I feel bad....it seems like there are always scratchy tags and rough serged edges and seams inside the high-fashion clothes. The other day, she had a cute denim jumper/dress on over a onesie. I thought that would be comfy enough.....but every time she was in my arms (which is all the time!) the top of the jumper would ride up past her chin and the dress part would ride up her belly. I find that happens with most dresses.

When we're at home, she's usually just in a onesie and socks....or a onesie w/ soft elastic pants over it. I like getting her dressed up when we go out, but I think I'm going to stop doing that so much. I want her to be comfy. Babies look cute no matter what they wear anyway. I think a baby should just be able to wear pajamas everywhere for the first year of life.

I've always thought that most outfits are pretty ridiculous until the baby is upright. Dresses especially! I like the little unisex gowns with the elastic around the bottom for easy diaper changes, but Sam never liked wearing them. When he was little he mostly wore t-shirts or those one-piece pajamas, and he's become a real jeans and a t-shirt kind of a guy. I figure our kids tell us what they like to wear. You are very wise to listen to Scout!

Most of what Bailey wears is Carters. I have found that their clothes are the softest and most comfy, and seem to have the least snaps and stuff like that.

But she never really seems bothered by anything she wears anyway so I don't worry about it too much... unless she has on a dress that isn't so comfortable looking, then I will change her once we get home.

Glad I'm not a weirdo for thinking baby outfits are kinda odd.

ooh - I so agree about the Carter's stuff. Target & Wal-Mart (I know, I know, evil empire, yada yada :) had those Carters sleeveless one-piece outfits that were actually onesies but looked like dresses in the front. I LOVE those things 'cause they don't ride up like dress/bloomer combos....but now our target is out of them and socking fall stuff and our wal-mart doesn't have her size. Poop.

Speaking of size, there is only ONE thing that I hate about using cloth diapers.....

They drastically affect what size clothing Scout can fit into. If she were to wear a disposable, I think she would fit into most 3-6 months clothing....and some 6-9 months, since she's long.

The other day, I bought her (I kid you not) size 9 months onesie shirts from Target! Gees! Granted, they are 100% cotton and shrunk up a little bit....but that's what it takes to get around her huge baby-got-back diaper bum. I could go with t-shirts instead, but (like the dresses) they ride all the way up to her neck while I'm holding her and I constantly have to pull them down. Drives me batty! Maybe when she's more mobile and being carried around less, we will go the t-shirt route. Gosh - I'm so picky! ;)

I had the same problem with Sam (though he is so tall he needed bigger sizes anyway). I don't have any, but I've seen onesie extenders that are little rectangles of fabric with snaps on them to go in the crotch between the front and back of a onesie. Maybe that would help.

Natalie is 2 and 1/2 months and is already wearing thin on her 3-6 month onsies. So, same problem here with the whole fit. I mean, she's long. But I'm pretty surprised. I think alot of these comfy onsies do shrink easily. Oh and speaking of comfy onsies, yeah.. those are the best. Natalie has a few dresses but she rarely wears them. Kudos to the onsie and socks. lol And maybe a pear of cotton pants to go with it. lol

Oh, I forgot to say - Old Navy onesies are the best for tall babies. A lot of the other onesies we were given seemed like they were made for short fat babies and Sam would outgrow them before he came anywhere close to filling them out, but the Old Navy ones fit beautifully.

I must have a very short, fat child. We still wear all 0-3 month stuff here (except Gerber onesies) and she will be three months on MOnday. I am HOPING that she will move into 3-6 month stuff soon because that's what most of her super cute summer stuff and of course dresses is.
