Hooray! "Free" Sling!

Scout has finally warmed up to riding in the ring sling. She loves to sit in it indian-style facing outwards, taking in the view of the world around her. The only problem is, I'm still not feeling the love for my particular sling. My mom made it for me and I just think we picked out really stupid fabric for it. There's a lot of bulk and drag, so it's hard to pull through the rings to get it adjusted right.

So.......I bought this sling over at a babywearing FSOT board that I stalk:

It is a silk Sleeping Baby Productions ring sling. Ones like this retail for $65. I got it for $35 and it has barely been worn. What made me want to try a SBP sling is the pleated shoulder. Lots of slingers are very fond of how in distributes weight evenly over the shoulder.....plus it looks pretty. The sling was actually FREE for me because I bought it with money I made selling cans of sample formula and some homemade co-sleeper sheets on eBay. Woohoo!

I'm not entirely wild about the accent fabric at the bottom of the sling. I mean, I don't hate it, but it's not really "me". I think I might replace it with something I like better....maybe something a little more neutral. I'm pretty sure I feel confident enough in my sewing abilities to do that. I thought about making a silk sling from scratch using the pattern I have, but that idea intimidated me. I've never worked with silk and I didn't want to botch the job on my first try, ruining some relatively expensive fabric.

I can't wait to get my sling!!

It's gorgeous. I love that fancy stitching along the top.

Putting in a shameless plug for the Moby wrap. It really distributes the weight across your whole back making it very comfortable. I wore my now four year old in a ring sling when he was little and it just seemed to throw my whole back and neck out of whack. Uugh.

I hope this sling works out for you because it is beautiful!!!

Oh yes - I dig the moby wrap. My friend is letting me borrow hers indefinitely, so I've gotten a chance to play with it a little. I haven't tried it lately, but it's the first baby carrier that Scout would tolerate for any length of time during her first weeks.

I know it's just something you have to get used to, but I would always either tie it too tight or too loose and then have to start all over again after attempting to put Scout in and realizing that I needed to re-adjust. I'm sure if I started wearing her in it more often, I could get it down. Hhhmmm.....I should do that, 'cause it IS super comfy! :)
