Get Thee BeeHind me.......

I was kinda lazy for a few days and used 'sposies (AKA disposable diapers, for those not hip to the lingo) instead of cloth. We have 2 or 3 packages of size 1 diapers left from the baby shower, so I figured hey, why not? We haven't had to buy a single package of diapers yet. Woohoo. I was really digging the throw-aways, but yesterday and today Scout's been mostly in cloth and I'm remembering why I love it. She had a 'sposie on earlier and there was a poo blow-out of epic proportions. Runny breastfed doo-doo exploded up her back and soaked through her clothes. That NEVER happens with cloth. In fact, the only 2 times I've had leaks with cloth were just pee and that was caused by me not fastening the covers tight enough, leaving a gap in the leg-holes.

We will have to be sizing up to medium cloth diapers soon, and I am lusting after these:

Baby BeeHinds One-Size Bamboo Diapers

All the mommas over at The Pin are just going ga-ga over them. Yeah, they're pricey. But my baby's perfect tiny rear is going to live in diapers for 2-3 years.....might as well go all out and cover it in luxuriously soft, fluffy, comfy goodness, right? Well, that's what I would do if we were rich. It's nice to dream.

This store has a deal where you can get 12 of them for $211.00. DH was going to put aside some money for my birthday (coming up at the end of July) and I told him that whatever we would've spent on my birthday we should save for when my sis and her family visit us in October.

Now........I'm thinking that October is a long ways off and I'd rather spend birthday cash on pieces of cloth for my daughter to crap in.

**ETA**
I couldn't resist. I bought the Baby BeeHinds trial offer from Palmetto Diaper Works. I'm getting a purple diaper with a pink PUL cover for $29.95 and free shipping. I'm excited!

Every once in a while I get tempted to try cloth diapering... but it seems like an expensive investment just to "try"

How many cloth diapers do you have and does it seem like enough?

Those are CUTE! I'll have to check them out. (Online. I can't afford more diapers! I spend all my spare money on diapers.)

I am crazy about the Bum Genius one-size pockets. They're the first diaper we've found that's absorbent enough for overnight, and they've enabled to stop using sposies, which I hate. (By the way, that blow-out probably means she needs size 2.)

"I'd rather spend birthday cash on pieces of cloth for my daughter to crap in" - ha ha I love it!

we were originally going to go for cloth and had the money set aside but then we had an accident with the car so the money got spent on that and now I have to say we're just too used to disposable. Sorley had a few up-the-back disasters in the early days but since he's been on solids his crap is, well, solid so we have no problems. It's a shame it costs so much to start out with cloth unless you're one of the clever mummys who can make their own!

I e-mailed you, twolinesonastick :)

I only have 1 BumGenius and I really do like it. I think I'm going to try it out at night and see if it works for us because we've been using sposies at night.

Annika, Have you had any problems w/ pockets as far as detergent build-up or the fleece repelling? I've thought about buying a ton of BumGenius and getting rid of everything else because they are so easy.....but I'm scared 'cause I've read so many horror stories about having to "strip" pocket dipes because the synthetic fleece can start holding stink, repelling, yada yada, depending on the way you wash them.

I haven't had any problems yet. I wash the diapers (in coin-op machines, so who knows what buildup exists from other people's products) in a tablespoon or two of All Free & Clear and about a cup of baking soda, with a quarter to half cup of vinegar in the rinse cycle. If I'm in a hurry, I dry them on warm, and if I have time I hang them on the line.

For overnight (the only time we use them) I stuff the Bum Genius with the microfiber insert it came with an an infant size prefold (folded in thirds for Sam, who is a size large - you might try folding one in thirds the 'wrong' way maybe).

I bought one Fuzzy Bunz pocket and didn't like it. I didn't find it very absorbent, but now I'm wondering if I just need to wash it a few times.

I have a half-written post about cloth diapers - I really should finish it.
